Vanity?

On the economics of economics blogs … Apparently it lifts your readership and esteem among your peers.

But i am anonymous. So why do i blog?

I started to take the steam out – blogging a view helps me keep my mouth shut in real life. Also, I found that the process ordered my thoughts, and that the sunshine public discourse shed on my views improved them (and, hopefully me).

There is a vanity aspect that is hard to seperate from all this – it feels good to look at flattering site stats.

There is, however, a positive aspect to ‘stat watching’ even if it is motivated by vanity: the responsiveness of internet publishing helps one learn how to write and what folks like to read. For that reason alone it is a worthwhile investment.
